Amerian Virgin =/= "You Touched My Stuff"?

Intrigue
So, I've been reading (and enjoying) American Virgin, and while I was making a post to one of STs lists, it dawned on me that the first story arc of the book is "you touched my stuff" if you put "the whole kettle of fish in a nutshell".

But it doesn't feel like a typical "you touched my stuff" story to me. It's not making me all eye-rolly and annoyed.

I think it's because our dear, dead, violated fiance, Cassie, has a voice, and we've seen from issue #1 that she had her own mind and lived her own life apart from Adam Chamberlain.

Or maybe it's because it's subversive of YTMS in the sense that we the reader see that Adam's revenge isn't about her, it's all about him, and that Adam is coming to realize this, too. Getting revenge hasn't put things right, Cassie still haunts Adam, and Adam actually has more questions and is less sure of himself and his place in the world than he was at the beginning.

Thoughts?

Agreed. American Virgin is one of the few US comics I read (I'm more of a manga person), and it much more closely resonates with reader emotions, at least in those "that's just like what I did one time" moments, such as walking in on his brothers watching an old porn tape of his dad's, and so on.

On the surface, its a YTMS. But the overall theme is greater than that, which I truly admire about it.
